Cagles Mill Lake

Cagles Mill Lake (locally known as Cataract Lake) is located in south-central Indiana, about 30 miles southwest of Indianapolis. A perfect vacation spot as there is something for everyone to enjoy: boating, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, fishing and sight-seeing. With two state recreation areas, gorgeous waterfalls, and picnic shelters, you can have a great time at Cagels Mill Lake.

State Recreation Areas

There is plenty to do at Lieber State Recreation Area. It has an amazing aquatic center, which opens Memorial Day. There are electric and non-electric campgrounds to choose from. The marina offers concessions, seasonal mooring, fuel, fishing supplies, and boat rental (fishing boats and pontoons). For added involvement, join the Friends of Cagles Mill Lake.
Another option is Cataract Falls State Recreation Area. There you can visit a covered bridge, hike the nature trail and view the breath-taking waterfalls. Both areas have trails, picnic shelters, and convenient toilet facilities

Salamonie River State Forest

Wildlife is plentiful throughout the park. The land surrounding Cagles Mill Lake is mostly forested, and full of deer, wild turkeys and a variety of other animals. Be sure to visit the interpretive center at Cagles Mill Lake for educational instruction and hands-on experiences.
The area surrounding Cagels Mill Lake is rich in Native American history. Tribes of Miami, Shawnee and Potawatomi were predominant in the 1700s. Rich soil, fresh water supply, and abundant wild life made the area popular. Learn more about this history when you stop by the Visitor Center.
