Primitive Camping

Curt Gowdy State Park has several primitive camping areas available. Some of them have pit toilets, others do not. Remember to carry in your own water. The state park no longer has an RV sanitary dump station, so plan to empty holding tanks in Cheyenne or Laramie after you leave. At Crystal Reservoir you will find primitive sites on both the south and north ends of the lake; these do have pit toilets. Granite Springs Reservoir has at least eight areas for primitive camping. Two of these are undeveloped and do not even have picnic tables; Upper Sherman Hills and Pole Mountain do have tables, but no toilet facilities. Twin Bays (four reservable sites), South Causeway (three tent reservable), Aspen Grove (one reservable site) and Hecla Point have primitive sites, tables, and pit toilets. Check the web or call 307-632-7946 for details. Aspen Grove is near a free public horse corral for campers who have horses and is the location of the Aspen Grove Trail Head.
